Do you have any areas of specialization, and what are they?
I have the experience with various age populations, however, I am most comfortable working with middle aged to geriatric populations.
What therapeutic methods, approaches, or philosophies do you use/have experience using?
Depending on the client and the circumstances she/he presents I enjoy using an arsenal of methods such as:
I am also in the process of becoming more educated through research and study (hopefully someday certified) regarding other advanced, counseling approaches such as DBT, EMDR, and others.
How does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
I’m definitely a firm believer of “Talk less and listen more”. I feel that to help clients get to where they want to be in life, it's vital to implement the most important tool a therapist can use, to listen. I’m also a believer in treating clients not just as clients, but as human beings. We all in some way go through the trials and tribulations of life. I feel that everyone needs that extra push to be successful with conquering their personal demons. I tend to be direct and up front with everyone. However, I’m very confident with reading those who are acceptive to this type of contribution versus those who may benefit from a more empathic and caring approach.
What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic alliance/relationship?
I think key components of a successful therapeutic alliance/ relationship consist of honesty, empathy, active listening, directiveness, commitment, professionalism, and a motivating, positive attitude towards self-goals, awareness, and care.
